What should a married, working woman do who left early and was subjected to an attempted assault, and is now traumatized and wants revenge?

We advise you to take precautions for yourself and adopt measures that prevent a recurrence of the assault, such as having a mahram with you, or going out to work after dark and when safety has spread. If the assault recurs, the aggressor is termed by jurists as a "sa'il" (an attacker), and it is permissible to repel him according to legal guidelines with the aim of repelling the aggression and getting rid of his evil. If this is achieved, then it is not permissible to pursue him and seek revenge. Whenever it is possible to escape or get rid of the sa'il by fortifying oneself or seeking refuge with a group, this becomes obligatory, because the duty is to save oneself by the easiest means. There is no place for revenge, as it differs from defense, and it falls under the category of ta'zir (discretionary punishment), which is the right of the Imam and those who represent him.
