Is it permissible to pray for a bad affliction to make the husband become religiously committed, especially if he does not pray or fast?

A person's supplication for himself or for others with evil affliction is not permissible, unless it is in response to a supplication uttered by another against the supplicant. The proof for its impermissibility is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) seeking refuge from severe affliction, and his command to seek refuge from it, and from the depths of misery, evil preordainment, the malicious joy of enemies, and from tribulations, both apparent and hidden. What is prescribed is to guide the negligent with wisdom and good admonition, and to supplicate for their guidance.
