Is expiation (kaffara) required for prayer and fasting from a patient who has lost awareness and control over their vital functions, or are they relieved of the obligation for both?

Whoever loses their memory and their mind changes and they no longer comprehend, the fast and prayer are lifted from them, and there is no expiation due upon them, because the pen has been lifted from them, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The pen has been lifted from three: from the sleeper until he awakens, from the child until he reaches puberty, and from the insane person until he regains his sanity." (And the senile person was added to it). This includes whoever loses their mind due to old age or an accident from which recovery is not expected.
