How can one get rid of the practice of masturbation when feeling remorse and desiring to stop it?

Masturbation is forbidden, and one must hasten to repent from it. One should not despair of Allah's mercy, even if the sin is repeated. Rather, repentance should be renewed, accompanied by the firm intention to abandon the sin and regret it. Among the means to help avoid returning to the sin are: keeping good company, frequent remembrance of Allah and supplicating to Him, avoiding sexual provocations, avoiding solitude, striving against intrusive thoughts, and making abundant supplications, especially prayers for steadfastness.
