Is it permissible to swear or make an oath by other than Allah for the purpose of a classical Arabic language test at school?

Swearing by other than Allah is minor polytheism (shirk asghar). You can pass the exam by attributing this required section to its speaker, as in saying: "What is in the book: .." or "According to what we have studied," without attributing it to yourself.
