The question

What is the comprehensive explanation of the hadith: "A man will be brought to account in his grave, and if he is approached from the direction of his head, his recitation of the Qur’an will defend him; and if he is approached from the direction of his hands, his charity will defend him; and if he is approached from the direction of his feet, his walking to the mosques will defend him"? Are there any explanations for Al-Tabarani's lexicons?

The answer

There are no commentaries for al-Tabarani's lexicons. The meaning of the is that righteous deeds defend their doer from the torment that comes to him from different directions in the grave. Thus, night vigil defends from the direction of the legs, charity defends from the direction of the hands, reciting the Qur'an defends from the direction of the head, and remembrance (dhikr) and fasting defend from the direction of the mouth. Prayer and patience also stand in defense.
