What is the difference between the verse in Al-An'am (And do not kill your children out of poverty; We provide for you and for them) and the verse in Al-Isra (And do not kill your children for fear of poverty; We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is a great sin)?

"Imlaq" refers to poverty. It was a practice among the people of pre-Islamic ignorance (Jahiliyyah) to bury their daughters alive, either out of fear of poverty or due to its presence. The first verse, "And do not kill your children from poverty" (Surat Al-An'am 6:151), prohibits killing due to existing poverty. As for the second verse, "And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you" (Surat Al-

Isra 17:31), it prohibits killing out of fear of future poverty. Both verses emphasize Allah's guarantee of sustenance.
