What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding caring for my husband's brother, who is mentally and physically disabled, and suffers from poor personal hygiene? Is the wife sinful for feeling distressed and weary from caring for him? Is this considered a trial for which she will be rewarded? Is it permissible for her to seek help from his sisters?

Patience in caring for the sick is one of the greatest good deeds, and a Muslim is rewarded for it in this world and the Hereafter, as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever relieves a Muslim of a worldly distress, Allah will relieve him of a distress on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever makes things easy for a person in financial difficulty, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and the Hereafter. Whoever conceals a Muslim's fault, Allah will conceal his fault in this world and the Hereafter. Allah is with His servant as long as the servant is with his brother."

It is permissible to seek the help of the patient's sisters in caring for him, as they have more right to look after him. This is not considered a breach of promise to his mother, because fulfilling a promise is recommended, not obligatory.

There is no harm in obliging the patient to stay in a specific place for fear of the spread of impurity, while taking into account his well-being so that the matter does not turn into an imprisonment that harms him.
