There is no objection to naming someone Ra'if, as it is an active participle of the verb "ra'afa," meaning to be kind or merciful. Al-Mu'jam Al-Wasit states that "ra'afa bihi ra'fatan" means to have extreme mercy and compassion towards him, and thus he is "ra'if."
