If someone wakes up late and knows that the prayer time will expire if they attend to their needs, there are two scholarly opinions: the majority hold that performing the prayer within its prescribed time is obligatory, while some permit delaying it until after attending to one's needs, even if its time expires. Based on the view of the majority, one must hasten to perform ablution and catch the prayer. As for someone who wakes up before the time expires, with enough time for ablution and the opening takbir, they are not permitted to delay it. If they delay it, they sin and must perform it immediately as a make-up.
