Is it permissible for a girl to marry her maternal cousin, knowing that their maternal aunt (the foster mother) claims to have nursed him, while the mother says that the breastfeeding was very slight and for a short period, not complete, and the foster mother does not remember the quantity of breastfeeding?

The suckling has occurred, but the woman cannot specify the number of sucklings. Scholars have differed regarding the amount of suckling that makes marriage unlawful and what establishes it. The preponderant and more cautious opinion is to adopt the view of the Malikis and those who agree with them, which states that this establishes suckling and spreads the prohibition of marriage, based on the Almighty’s saying: "and your mothers who have suckled you," and the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "How can it be when she claims that she suckled both of you? Leave her." Therefore, it is advised that this man not marry this girl.
