Is a student on scholarship sinful for being negligent toward himself by making life difficult for himself, to the point of hunger and altered appearance, due to the insufficiency of the monthly stipend to cover his expenses?

The human body is a trust that must be preserved. A Muslim is forbidden from anything that leads to harm or destruction, as Allah Almighty says: "And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is ever Merciful to you." (Quran 4:29). Neglecting food to the point of harm falls under this meaning. The obligatory amount of food is that which protects a person from harm and destruction. Whoever abandons this amount while being able to afford it is sinful. Allah has commanded eating and drinking in His saying: "And eat and drink, but be not excessive." (Quran 7:31) for the preservation of health and the soundness of the body. There is no sin in borrowing money to preserve oneself, as it is not among the blameworthy types of begging, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself borrowed.
