What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a mother who uses sorcery and backbiting among her children and bears false witness, which has caused the children to be separated from their family, and what action should be taken concerning that?

If the mother commits grave sins, she is indeed abusive, severs ties of kinship, and deviates from the fitra (natural disposition). Nevertheless, one must treat her with kindness, striving for her reform and guidance. Among the most important means to achieve this are: praying for her, offering advice in a gentle and wise manner, and placating her with gifts and kindness. Obedience to the mother in what is good is obligatory, even if she acts wrongly. It is permissible to shun her if there is hope that it might benefit her, while emphasizing the importance of seeking refuge in Allah and fortifying oneself with supplications and remembrances.
