Is a wife obligated to obey her husband and abandon the niqab, which she desires to wear and is convinced is the prescribed Islamic dress?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on the niqab, oscillating between obligation and recommendation. Both stances represent obedience to Allah and His Messenger. If its wearing is deemed obligatory, then the husband has no right to prevent his wife from wearing it, and she is obligated to wear it. If it is deemed recommended, then the husband has no right to prevent her from wearing it, and she may choose to remove it if she wishes. Preventing the niqab is not an enjoinment of good; rather, the niqab preserves the rights and honor of the husband. There is no blame upon the sister for wearing the niqab, and she will be rewarded for it. However, she should try to persuade her husband about it.
