It is impermissible for a Muslim to insult his Muslim brother with phrases such as "O pig," because that is a sin and an act of wickedness (fisq), due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Insulting a Muslim is wickedness (fisq) and fighting him is disbelief (kufr)." This is forbidden by scholarly consensus. The Malikis are of the view that the one who utters such phrases deserves disciplinary punishment, whereas the Hanafis hold that there is no discretionary punishment (ta'zir) for him if the falsehood in his statement is evident.
