Have the innovations of some Hanbalis mentioned by Sheikh al-Islam concerning tawhid, takfir, tabdi‘, and tadlil increased, disappeared, or decreased?

The Hanbalis are the least innovative among the followers of the Imams, and Imam Ahmad's detailed discourse on the Sunnah and the fundamentals of religion is the reason for this. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that the innovation of the Hanbalis is often in an excessive affirmation regarding Allah, and an excessive denouncement of opponents, whereas the innovation of others may be more severe or involve negation. Excessive affirmation means affirming wordings not found in the Qur’an and Sunnah, which some Hanbalis fell into in response to those who deny Allah's attributes (Mu'attila). As for today's Hanbalis, they do not have excessive affirmation; rather, they adhere to authentic texts. Regarding denouncing opponents, scholars regulate this according to the Shari'ah and warn against rushing into excommunication (takfir) and declaring someone an innovator (tabdi'). It is advisable for a student of knowledge to acquire creed from trustworthy scholars and to avoid preoccupying oneself with evaluating schools of thought.
