Is it permissible for me to pray two rak'ahs of gratitude to Allah daily?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Prayer is a good subject, and it is virtuous to perform it abundantly. However, performing two rak'ahs with the intention of a prayer of gratitude daily has no basis in the Sunnah. What is prescribed for someone who receives a new blessing is the prostration of gratitude (sujud al-shukr). Some scholars have permitted prayer to take the place of pro prostration. While many scholars are of the opinion that the prayer performed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on the day of the conquest of Mecca was the Duha prayer, and that the prayer of gratitude is not legislated. So, gratitude has only prostration when a new blessing is received.
