Allah Almighty holds His servant accountable for all that he has done. However, whoever repents with a sincere repentance that fulfills its conditions—namely: abandoning the sin, resolving never to return to it, and regretting having committed it—then Allah accepts his repentance, and he becomes as if he had never sinned, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin." If the sin involves the right of another human being, then one must seek their forgiveness or restore their right to them. As for backbiting, it suffices to seek forgiveness for the one who was backbitten and to mention their good qualities, due to the harm that informing them of the backbiting would cause.
