Is it permissible to abort a fetus in the early stages of pregnancy (before it completes one month) due to living conditions and being content with having one previous daughter?

It is not permissible to abort a fetus absolutely, except for a legitimate Shar'i excuse, even if it is a fertilized egg that has not been forty days old. Living conditions or being content with the current children are not among the legitimate Shar'i excuses that permit abortion. The resolution of the Council of Senior Scholars stipulated that abortion is not permissible except for a legitimate Shar'i justification and within very narrow limits. It emphasized that abortion in the first stage (forty days) is not permissible for fear of hardship in raising children or being content with the children the couple already has.
