Is it possible to be released from an oath that states, "If I hurt you or conceal something from you, you are divorced from me," and what is its expiation?

The wife erred by asking her husband to swear an oath of divorce. If the husband breaks his oath, his divorce takes effect according to the majority of scholars, and this is the relied-upon opinion. However, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds that the one who swore the oath must offer an expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat yameen).

If the divorce occurs and the husband has not previously divorced more than one time, he can reconcile with his wife during her 'iddah (waiting period).

As for the view of Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, the husband can offer an expiation for a broken oath if he did not intend divorce.
