Is it permissible to take money from one's father for a specific purpose and then spend it on another?

If a girl knows that her father does not mind her spending the money he gives her in any way she desires, then she is permitted to benefit from it in any lawful manner. However, if he gives it to her specifically for buying textbooks, then it is not permissible to spend it on anything other than the purpose for which it was given, as Al-Adawi said: "Whoever gifts a man something to assist him in seeking knowledge should not spend it on anything else."
