The answer

More than one scholar has stated that the souls of the living and the dead meet in dreams. Then, Allah withholds the souls of the dead and sends the souls of the living back to their bodies. It is also possible for the souls of the living to meet in sleep and wakefulness. Muslim narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Souls are like enlisted troops; those who recognize each other unite, and those who do not recognize each other diverge." The reality of the meeting of souls is known only to Allah. The Muslim should occupy himself with what is more beneficial to him in the matter of his religion, and should not build rulings on visions and dreams. He must fear Allah while awake and not worry about what he sees in his sleep.
