What is the ruling on the weekly gathering for the recitation of the Quran and adhkar called "Al-Khitam" (the Conclusion), and is it considered an innovation (bid'ah)? And what should one do if this conflicts with the parents' opinion and the desire to avoid violating the Sunnah?

There is no objection to gathering to recite the Qur'an, study it, and learn its interpretation and rulings, as long as no special virtue is attributed to a specific time or place. It is stipulated that the recitation should not be in one collective voice, but rather by rotation, or one person recites while the others listen. As for gathering to recite adhkar (remembrances) in a collective voice or led by someone, there is no basis for it in the Sunnah; rather, it is an innovation (bid'ah). The difference between the two is that the Sharia encouraged the first, while there is nothing to indicate the legitimacy of the second. The gatherings of remembrance mentioned in the Sharia are understood to be gatherings of knowledge or individual, private remembrance.
