What was the madhhab of Imam al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him?

Imam Al-Bukhari was a jurist (faqih) who practiced ijtihad (independent reasoning) and established his own madhhab (school of thought); he was not a follower (muqallid) of any of the established madhhabs. Many imams described him as an absolute mujtahid (one who practices independent reasoning), considering him a leading authority in fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
