And what is the ruling on sleeping on these beds, using these stairs, and assisting in their making?

If the worker performs his job as required, and there is no transgression or negligence on his part, then there is no blame on him for any work tools that are damaged or lost. And if it is customary to permit the use of wood and similar materials found on site for work tools or for workers' benefit, then there is no harm in that. However, as for water that a person transports and places in his private containers, and he does not permit its use, then it is not permissible to use it. One must avoid reprehensible acts and forbid them.
