What should we do when we encounter a verse in the the Quran that contains an interrogative, such as His, the Almighty's, saying: "Has there come to you the story of the overwhelming event?" or "Are the disbelievers recompensed for what they used to do?"

It is sunnah to interact with the Qur'anic verses during prayer and outside of it. It is recommended, upon reaching verses of mercy, to ask Allah for mercy; upon reaching verses of punishment, to seek refuge [with Allah]; and upon reaching verses of glorification, to glorify [Allah]. This is recommended for the Imam, the one praying behind the Imam, and the one praying alone, in both obligatory and supererogatory prayers. It was not mentioned in the aforementioned hadith about 'Amr ibn Maymun that the Prophet's (peace be upon him) interaction with the woman's recitation was during prayer. The most complete interaction with the Qur'an is to ponder its meanings, act upon them, and heed its admonitions, as Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, the female Companions, and 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them) did.
