Is it necessary to repeat the remembrances of sleep (adhkar an-nawm) after waking up to go to the bathroom, or after speaking about worldly matters with another person?
It is legislated for one who awakens at night to remember Allah and supplicate, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever stirs from sleep at night and says: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things competent. All praise is due to Allah, and glory be to Allah, and none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power nor might except with Allah,' then says: 'O Allah, forgive me,' or supplicates, his supplication will be answered. And if he performs ablution and prays, his prayer will be accepted." It is also legislated for him, if he gets up from his bed and returns to it to sleep again, to repeat the remembrances of sleep, especially if a long time has passed between his getting up and his sleeping, though this is not a religious obligation. And if a Muslim speaks ordinary words, it is legislated for him to repeat the remembrances, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "So make them the last words you say."
