What is the Islamic legal ruling for a wife who accepts gifts (sums of money) and does not inform her husband of that?

A wife's acceptance of financial gifts falls into two categories: either they are in exchange for something unlawful, in which case they are forbidden; or they are given in a permissible manner with the intention of fostering love and affection, in which case there is no objection to accepting them, and the husband's permission is not required. However, it is good etiquette to inform the husband of their source and reasons.
