What should an 18-year-old Moroccan girl do, who wishes to wear the niqab, which she considers an obligation based on the opinions of some scholars, but her school does not allow it, and there is no one who wears it in her surroundings?
Scholars have differed regarding the obligation for a woman to cover her face and hands in front of non- men. Imam Ahmad's school of thought holds that it is obligatory for a woman to cover her face and hands in front of non-mahram men, while the schools of Abu Hanifa and Malik hold that it is not obligatory. The preponderant opinion for us is the obligation for a woman to cover her face in front of non-mahram men. However, if you are prevented from wearing the niqab at school, or if you are harmed, you are excused for uncovering your face in places where the niqab is prohibited or where you would suffer harm. So, strive to wear it according to your ability when you are able to do so.
