The correct approach is to prevent reliance on astronomical calculations for establishing months, and to depend instead on the legal sighting (of the crescent moon). Some scholars, such as Ibn Surayj and Ahmad Shakir, held this view, but their opinion is weak, and those who follow it are not described as innovators (engaging in bid'ah).

Evidence should be presented and the correct view clarified without slandering individuals. What the preacher did by slandering a committee for its disagreement is not sound. A Muslim should fear Allah and be cautious in their speech, and avoid slandering Muslims and scholars.
