What is the ruling regarding someone who is remiss or negligent in their religious obligations?

A person who is negligent and lax in their religious obligations, if their negligence is in an obligatory act, then they are disobedient and sinful. If it is in a recommended act, then it is disliked. The ruling on someone who is negligent in obligations varies depending on the type of negligence. One who abandons prayer is considered a disbeliever by many scholars, while one who does not abandon it entirely is a disobedient Muslim in great danger. Similarly, one who is negligent in Hajj, or Zakat, or honoring parents, or maintaining kinship ties; the more obligatory acts they neglect, the greater their sin and distance from Allah.
