Should one ignore the whispers of Satan concerning backbiting and other sins, such as looking at foreign women, knowing that it is difficult to avoid gatherings where these things occur?

Prohibited backbiting is mentioning your brother with what he dislikes. Therefore, merely looking at the brother of the girl whom colleagues backbite is not backbiting, nor is asking for applause for an arrogant person backbiting, even if it is forbidden mockery and ridicule.

One must beware of the disobedient and deviant and avoid sitting with them and befriending them. Likewise, one must not succumb to obsessive thoughts and repel them by seeking Allah's help. If a Muslim is unable to perform the rituals of his religion in the lands of the disbelievers, then he is obligated to leave them.
