Mentioning a person with what they dislike in their absence is forbidden backbiting (gheeba muharrama), and it is not permissible except for a valid purpose. The way to rid oneself of this forbidden act is to fear Allah the Almighty, to avoid gatherings where backbiting occurs, and to advise colleagues that this act is forbidden, reminding them of what Allah has prepared for those who backbite. If they respond, then praise be to Allah; otherwise, it becomes obligatory to distance oneself from and abandon such gatherings, while clarifying the reason for abandonment.
