A beginner in seeking Islamic knowledge is advised to start with a concise book on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) to prepare him for understanding the texts of revelation through his knowledge of the Arabic language, fundamental principles, and jurisprudential rules. Then, he should combine the study of fiqh and books, seeking out the evidence for the issues discussed therein, and striving to ascertain which evidence is stronger. For the best approach to studying fiqh al-hadith (jurisprudence of hadith), he should begin with Al-Umdah by Al-Hafiz, then Bulugh al-Maram, then Muntaqa al-Akhbar, and then engage in studying the foundational books of the .
