Why did God take Abraham as a Khalil (close friend), and why did God speak to Moses directly?

All praise is due to Allah. He has profound wisdom in preferring some of His creation over others. He is the Doer of what He wills; He creates what He wishes and chooses. Allah has preferred some times, places, people, and things, as His words affirm: "Allah chooses messengers from the angels and from the people. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing." (22:75), and "Those messengers – We preferred some of them over others." (2:253), and "And indeed, We have preferred some of the prophets over others." (17:55). From this preference, Allah took Abraham as a close friend (khalil) and spoke directly to Moses. These are unique distinctions that Allah grants to whomever He wills among His creation, as He says: "He selects for His mercy whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty." (2:105).
