What is the difference between major hypocrisy (nifaq akbar) and minor hypocrisy (nifaq asghar), and will the perpetrator of either of them abide eternally in Hell?

Major hypocrisy is the concealment of disbelief while outwardly showing Islam. This was the case during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and those who practice it will be in the lowest depths of Hell. Among its most prominent characteristics are lying, treachery, and betrayal.

As for minor hypocrisy (practical hypocrisy), it is hypocrisy in actions, where a person outwardly performs a good deed but inwardly conceals the opposite, or when their inner state differs from their outward appearance in matters other than the fundamentals of faith, such as lying, treachery, breaking promises, betrayal, and obscenity in disputes.

Minor hypocrisy does not lead its practitioner to eternal damnation if they die upon it; rather, it is a means to major hypocrisy. Its ultimate fate is subject to Allah's will, like the case of disobedient monotheists, unlike the major hypocrite, who will abide eternally in Hellfire.
