The majority of scholars are of the opinion that the forbidden abandonment (hajr) ceases with merely offering greetings (salaam) upon meeting. The forbidden abandonment is the act of a man refraining from speaking to his brother when they meet, with each turning away from the other and abandoning the salaam. Therefore, avoiding meeting the woman is not a forbidden abandonment as long as you do not abandon offering salaam to her if you meet her.
