What is the ruling on one who invalidates their ablution in the middle of performing full ablution (ghusl)? And does one have to wash the private parts (penis and anus) again while washing the entire body, after having washed them before performing ablution in both the full and partial ghusl? And is it obligatory to rinse the mouth and sniff water into the nose while washing the entire body in full ghusl?

We mentioned the description of the complete and sufficient ghusl in Fatwa 125986. Wudu’ is recommended at the beginning of ghusl, and if someone omits it, their ghusl is valid. If a person breaks their wudu’ during the initial wudu’ for ghusl, they can repeat the wudu’, and the initial intention for ghusl will suffice. Ghusl is sufficient for wudu’ even if one does not start or conclude with it, unless one breaks wudu’ after washing some of the wudu’ limbs.

If one breaks wudu’ during ghusl and does not go back to wash the wudu’ limbs that were washed before the event, their prayer will not be valid. Later scholars differed on whether washing the pre-event wudu’ limbs requires a new intention or if the initial ghusl intention suffices, and the second opinion is the relied-upon one.

Among the recommended acts of ghusl is to begin by removing impurities and washing the private parts. If one washes the private parts with the intention of ghusl from janabah, it suffices. However, if one washes them without the intention of janabah, they must wash them again with the intention of removing janabah.

Rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose at the beginning of ghusl are sufficient, and there is no need to repeat them while pouring water over the body, because washing the wudu’ limbs suffices for washing their places in ghusl from janabah.
