Gold-plated jewelry falls into two categories: The first is when the gold is intended by the buyer due to its quantity, and in this case, immediate possession (al-taqabud) in the contract session is required. The second is when the gold is not intended by the buyer, but rather the jewelry itself, and the gold is insignificant. In this case, the rules of riba (usury) do not apply, and the sale is permissible without requiring immediate possession. Scholars have stipulated this, as what is not intended in the sale is as if it does not exist. As for selling this jewelry, it is permissible to sell it to someone who will use it for permissible purposes, and it is forbidden to sell it to someone whom the seller knows or strongly believes will use it for forbidden purposes. If the buyer's situation is unknown, the prevailing custom of the people of the land is considered.
