What is the ruling on buying gold in installments without interest through websites?
When purchasing gold through electronic platforms, the regulations governing gold trade must be observed. There must be an immediate exchange ( قبض) at the time of purchase, either physically or constructively, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Gold for gold, silver for silver... hand to hand." This ruling is agreed upon for unworked gold. However, some scholars are of the opinion that gold jewelry, once crafted, becomes, through permissible manufacturing, a commodity like clothes and goods, not a form of currency. Therefore, deferred payment (نسيئة) for it is permissible. This is the choice of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim. Nevertheless, it is more cautious not to purchase gold jewelry by installment.
