Is it from the Sunnah for the worshiper's sutrah to be to his right or left, rather than directly in front of him?

Ibn al-Qayyim held that if a worshiper takes a sutra, he should not face it directly, but rather place it slightly to his right or left, citing a prophetic hadith to that effect, though it is weak. However, the apparent evidence suggests that the sutra should be directly in front of the worshiper. The matter is broad in this regard.
