Where should the praying person's sutrah be placed?

It is recommended for one who prays towards a sutrah (an object placed in front of a worshiper to mark the limits of their prayer area) to deviate slightly from it to the right or left, and not to place it directly in front of their face. This is what the Hanbali and Shafi'i jurists have stipulated.
