What is the amount of Sutrah in prayer? And what is the religious opinion on those who exaggerate in estimating its distance?

Scholars have agreed upon the permissibility of taking a sutrah for the worshipper, and the minimum sufficient for it is the back of a saddle (two-thirds of a cubit). If one does not find a sutrah, is it permissible for him to draw a line? Scholars have differed on this.

The wisdom behind the sutrah is to prevent gazes and to block passersby. It is not permissible for anyone to pass in front of a worshipper, and there is a severe warning against those who do so. If the passerby knew the sin he incurs, standing for forty (years or autumns, according to different narrations) would be better for him than passing in front of the worshipper.

If the worshipper is praying towards a sutrah, then passing is only permissible from behind it. If he is not praying towards a sutrah, then one may pass either beyond his place of prostration, or after a distance of three cubits from his feet, or from a customary far distance from him.
