What do you do when you have brought your sick foster mother to be cared for, while your husband refuses to bring your foster father, claiming inability to care for both of them given the presence of young children, and would you be considered disobedient or held accountable by God for traveling to a distant city with your husband?

The guardian is not considered a parent to the fostered child, and is not legally obligated to care for them. However, showing kindness and reciprocating good deeds are noble virtues. Assistance can be provided through money to hire a servant, or by encouraging the child's relatives to financially support them. The guardian is a stranger to the fostered child, unless there is a nursing relationship or similar. Adoption is Islamically invalid, and does not entail the rulings of biological parenthood, as Allah Almighty says: "Nor has He made your adopted sons your [biological] sons."
