Is the questioner sinful for refusing to pray in congregation with her father at home—especially during Ramadan—with the aim of encouraging him to pray in the mosque? And does this affect the acceptance of her fasting? And how should she deal with him, given that he does not accept discussion?

Although congregational prayer is not obligatory for women, the questioner should have prayed with her father due to the obligation of obeying him. Allah Almighty has commanded dutifulness and kindness to parents, and disobeying a father when he requests congregational prayer is not a part of that dutifulness. She should strive to please her father, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The pleasure of the Lord is in the pleasure of the parent, and the wrath of the Lord is in the wrath of the parent."

It is regrettable that the father sometimes misses congregational prayer in the mosque, and occasionally Friday prayers and Eid prayers. Congregational prayer is obligatory in the mosque, and abandoning Friday prayer without a valid excuse is a major sin, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever abandons three Friday prayers out of negligence, Allah will seal his heart."

The questioner must advise her father kindly. If he does not accept direct advice, she should present him with books and audio recordings that discuss the obligation of congregational and Friday prayers. She should also seek assistance from relatives or neighbors who may have influence over him and strive to supplicate for him.
