Is Zakat obligatory on the value of manufactured iron plates and columns, or only on the profit?

Zakat becomes obligatory on the aforementioned materials after their valuation and reaching the nisab, because they are considered trade goods that were purchased with the intention of manufacturing and selling, as stated in Al-Insaf by Al-Mardawi and Asna al-Matalib.
