What is the ruling on using a cartoon image taken from a mobile phone as a background, and pictures of cartoon characters on PlayStation game boxes?

If the pictures taken by a mobile phone are permissible, then it is permissible to use them as a background, provided they are not forbidden, such as pictures of 'awrat (private parts) or women seen by non-mahram (definition) men. As for hand-drawn pictures of living beings without a শরعي (Shar'i) benefit, they are not permissible. It is also not permissible to photograph them with a mobile phone or to use them as a background, because that constitutes an endorsement of them and an aid to looking at them.
