To what extent does God conceal His servant?

The extent of Allah's concealment of His servants' sins is known only to Him, the Exalted. For this reason, some of the gnostics (those who have deep spiritual knowledge of Allah) among the righteous predecessors said: "Were it not for Allah's concealment, no one would sit with us." It was narrated from Ibn Wasi': "If sins had a scent, no one would sit near me." And Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: "If you were to uncover each other's secrets, you would not bury each other," meaning, if some of you knew the faults and inner secrets of others, you would not attend each other's funerals.
