It is permissible to combine two prayers when there is a need and to alleviate hardship, according to some scholars. They cite the of Ibn Abbas that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, "combined Dhuhr and Asr, and Maghrib and Isha in Medina, without fear or rain," to remove hardship from his Ummah. This combination is allowed for a need, provided that the Muslim does not make it a habit.
