The parents' choice of spouse is not binding upon the son, and his refusal is not considered an act of disobedience. Ibn Taymiyyah held the view that it is impermissible for parents to compel their son to marry someone he does not desire. The fundamental principle is that a man should marry a woman towards whom his heart inclines to ensure the continuity of affection.
